KINGSWAY is a small community of musicians that come together in varying arrays of musical configurations to interpret the work of singer/songwriter RC Joseph. Agile and astonishing, KINGSWAY has delivered six albums of self-described “new wave urban folk rock.” Throughout this creative endeavor, KINGSWAY has joined forces with the likes of The Weber Brothers, Mooncussers, and Counterrevolutionaries, Radiogram and even Shocore. But it would appear that THE GREAT OUTDOORS might be the one band with which this promiscuous collective finally settles down.
Closing in on over a dozen releases over the years whilst carving up Canada’s rock ’n’ roll underground, THE GREAT OUTDOORS remains as prolific and powerful today as ever before. A two-singer-quintet with a heart steeped in tradition – and a mind set on breaking new ground – THE GREAT OUTDOORS brings a solid foundation to the meandering brilliance of KINGSWAY’s melodic soundscapes.
The first time these two bands joined forces, it resulted in the critically acclaimed Belvedere Half Court – a collection of heartfelt folk-rock songs disguised as yet another KINGSWAY concept album (this one an open love-letter to a low-rent Vancouver apartment). Their musical paths now intersect for the second time to facilitate the cinematic collision of sound titled Stories of the Avalanche – an album fittingly themed around death… and rebirth.
